Every year, on the third Thursday of March, thousands of adults send notes, emails, letters , texts, videos (you choose!) to encourage and inspire young people across the country. 2023 AIKD is March 16.
Participating in AIKD is a simple, meaningful way to let youth know how much they are appreciated. Words are powerful – young lives are changed by this day and simple act of your encouragement, love, and kindness.
It’s an annual call to action for adults to write letters of love and support to kids, created by Camp Fire, a national youth development organization. Adults sometimes forget to stop and tell a child how important he or she is. Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® is a reminder to do just that. Camp Fire is an expert in adult-to-child communication, and Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® strengthens the important bond between kids and adults.
A letter is personal, tangible and something a person can hold onto for years to come. Through written words, people can express emotions they may hold back in conversation. And during the often-challenging times of adolescence, children may be more open to reading a letter than having a talk that may “embarrass” them.
Children need positive reinforcement in their lives. The right words of encouragement can come at just the time a child needs them most – helping the child make better decisions, build self-esteem, and even be more compassionate and successful.
We want every child to receive a letter, post, tweet and tag (#AIKD) notes of encouragement and inspiration. Just imagine the impact of loving letters or notes in lunch boxes, on cell phones or tucked in backpacks.
